New Logo Competition All around us we see logos, badges which identify an organisation and help to imprint that identity on us. Well, it has been suggested that it is high time that St Mary’s with Holy Apostles church has a new logo. To that end we are launching a competition, open to everyone in our church, to design a new logo for our church. There are very few rules. The design should be original. It should convey a clear sense that we are an Anglican church, perhaps indicating we have three distinct main congregations. It’s up to you. The winning logo will be used on letterheads, publications, web site and notice boards etc. Take a look at what other churches have done. That may give you a few ideas. If you want to take part then please submit your entry to Ian at the church office, or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by no later than Friday 24th November. Use whatever format you want. A prize will be awarded to the winner.
Operation Christmas Child This year’s Christmas Shoebox campaign is now underway and shoeboxes are being filled by churches, groups, schools and individuals in the area. It would be great if members of St Mary’s and Holy Apostles were willing to support the Shoebox collection again this year. Leaflets and flat pack shoeboxes are now available in church and it would be appreciated if filled shoeboxes could be returned to church by Sunday November 19th. More details can be obtained from Ros Dyson, tel 368091.
Christmas Fair This year our Christmas Fair is on Saturday 2nd December from 11.00 am till 2.00 pm at Parish House. The Fair raises funds jointly between church and the Friends of St Mary’s. We need you help to make this event a great success. Anyone who is willing to set up a stall of goods to sell, or help on the day would be most welcome. We also need contributions of home baking, quality tombola prizes, jewellery, toiletries, books and toys. These can be left at St Mary’s or at Parish House, marked ‘Christmas Fair’. Enquiries or to arrenge collection to Christine Cox, tel 370382. The Fair is a great way to get the Christmas season underway so do put the date in your diary and be sure to bring friends and family too
The next Alpha Course starts on Wednesday 15th November, 6.45 for 7.00 pm at Parish House, Castle Road. The course is for those wanting to explore Christianity, new Christians, newcomers to the church, those who want to brush up on the basics of faith, in fact it’s for everyone. This is how it works: We meet together for an evening meal, watch a DVD and then break into small groups for discussion. There is no charge for the course. To book your place please phone Ian in the church office on 500541, or email email@example.com.
Prayer and Care For Prayer Chain requests please phone Jan Watts (360410) or Janet Whitehead (377837). To let us know of someone who is ill phone Chris Hartley (378324) or Richard Southam (865627).
Small Groups. Home groups, and Tuesday Evening Worship, are places where we encourage each other in developing the life of Jesus in ourselves and in our church. We can explore how the Bible applies in our daily lives and ask questions in a way that isn’t possible within a Sunday service, as well as developing quality relationships with each other. It is really valuable for every church member to belong to such a group. If you would like to know more please call the church office (500541). Read more.
