Upcoming Events

Read about our upcoming events at St Mary’s with Holy Apostles:

Feed the Minds Christmas Card Appeal: We are asking Church members to support Feed the Minds. There are giant Christmas cards at the back of St Mary’s and Holy Apostles. If you usually send cards to your friends at Church, please express your greetings by signing the card, and placing the money saved in the collection tin. If you prefer not to, please sign the card and make a donation anyway! Thank you.

Carol Singing Around the Old Town Pubs Once again we will be singing carols in various pubs in the old town part of our parish. This is a great way of taking our church out into the community. It’s also a lot of fun. We generally sing one or two carols in each pub and offer round some sweets. We don’t take donations and although we don’t preach we do invite folk to our Christmas services. If you would like to be part of this ‘pop up’ choir, then do join us when we gather at Parish House at 7.30pm on 21st December. Everyone is most welcome to join us.

Rainbow Centre Food Boxes at St Mary’s and Holy Apostles The Rainbow Centre is gearing up towards Christmas and would welcome donations of non-perishable food, clothing, children’s toys and gifts to make up hampers and parcels for those in need. Any donations can be left at Parish House or at the back of church.

John Wells Ordination John Wells is being ordained Deacon in York Minster on Sunday 13th January 2019 at 10.00am. It would be great if you could join John and Jan at that service. If you would like to go but don’t wish to make your own way to the Minster a minibus will be leaving St Mary’s car park at 8.00am that morning. To book a seat contact Jan Wells on either 01723 352777 or 07974894881. There will be no charge for the minibus.

St Mary’s is in need of a new Christian Aid representative. If you feel this may be something you could do then please contact Pam Barton on 01723 370286 to find out what is involved.

Woodall Avenue Thanks to the fantastic efforts of a small team, Woodall Avenue, our Curate’s house, is almost ready to rent out. This will help our stretched finances. However, one last push is needed so we are appealing for folk to come forward, preferably before Christmas, to help with cleaning, decorating and general household tasks. Nothing too strenuous. If you feel you can help then contact either Gordon Reed or Ian in the church office. Many thanks.

Christmas Plants If you know any church member who is not able to get to church and would like to receive a gift of a plant from St Mary’s and Holy Apostles please give their names to: Jane Moxon 9.30am, Pam Barton 10.00am, Barbara Foster 10.30am or Jan Watts 11.00am.

Operation Christmas Child UK  Operation Christmas Child Shoebox collection will start at the beginning of November. It would be great if members of our church could take part again by filling shoeboxes with gifts for children. Explanatory leaflets with details of how to take part are now at the back of church. For further information please contact Ros Dyson on 01723 368091.

Prayer and Care: for Prayer Chain requests please phone Jan Watts (360410) or Janet Whitehead (377837). To let us know of someone who is ill phone Barbara Foster (364796), Pam Barton (370286) or Richard Southam (865627).

Small Groups. Home groups are places where we encourage each other in developing the life of Jesus in ourselves and in our church. We can explore how the Bible applies in our daily lives and ask questions in a way that isn’t possible within a Sunday service, as well as developing quality relationships with each other. It is really valuable for every church member to belong to such a group. If you would like to know more please call the church office (500541). Read more.
