The Rainbow Centre Needs Your Help We are in need of some very special people to volunteer to work with our clients. This work can be very challenging, but is also immensely rewarding. You will be helped and supported in this unique role until you feel comfortable. Any time that you can give will be gratefully received – some volunteers do one morning a week, others do two or three… or more. Some people ultimately feel it is not for them but are always pleased that they ‘gave it a go’. If you feel led to help us in this way please get in touch for an informal, no strings, chat and visit. If you would like to talk to a current client support worker about what is involved please Eric Smart (St Peter’s), Brian Swiers (Emmanuel St John’s), Lesley Usher (Westborough), Emma Walker (Sherburn), Trish Kinsella (St Mary’s with Holy Apostles), and Graham Porter ( Sainsbury’s ). To arrange an informal chat and visit please contact:

Thy Kingdom Come – A Global Wave of Prayer 25th May to 4th June, Ascension to Pentecost at St Mark’s Church, Newby. The church will be open from 9.00 am till 6.00 pm every day. Why not take time out of your busy day to visit the Prayer Stations. Enjoy time of quiet reflection in this peaceful place. Each day from 1.30 pm till 4.30 pm the prayer team will be available to help and pray with you if you wish. Refreshments will be available.
Decorating Working Party Needed. When Richard Walker joins us as our vicar at the end of July he will have an office at Parish House. That office needs some TLC before Richard can move in. It would be great if we could get a working party together to clean and paint Richard’s office. All you will need are paint brushes for gloss work and rollers for emulsioning the walls. All other materials and paint will be provided. If you feel you can help then please contact Ian in the church office tel 500541.
Calling all Actors, Singers and Technicians Have you ever wondered what it would be like to perform on the world famous stage at the Stephen Joseph Theatre? Well now is your chance to find out. The acclaimed musical drama ‘Black Potatoes’ will be performed in early February 2018 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre as a fund raiser for the Rainbow Centre. Volunteers to be part of the cast and backstage crew are being sought now. If you are interested in taking part then please call John McGlinchey on 017232 373812 for more information.
A Picnic for Pentecost This year, Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, falls on 4th June. It has been suggested that we should unite as a whole church to celebrate the occasion. To that end we are holding an all congregation picnic in the garden at Parish House after services from 12.00 noon on the day. Everyone is most welcome to come along. Please bring your own lunch. It isn’t a bring and share event so if you find yourself eating dodgy quiche it’s your own fault. Hot and cold drinks will be available.
Fun in the Sun 2017, July 1st. It may seem ages away but now is the time to start putting to one side books, plants, tombola prizes, toys etc to donate for stalls at our Fun in the Sun day on July 1st. We also need folk to help with stalls, setting up and clearing away. Fine, sunny, but not too hot, weather has been ordered so put this date in your diary. It’s one not to miss. For more details contact Debbie Simms tel 506709 or Ian Shimmin in the church office tel 500541.
Rainbow Centre Food Boxes at St Mary’s and Holy Apostles Buying a tin or packet and placing it in the box in Church helps us connect with the real need of so many. So, let’s see if we can fill the boxes every Sunday!
Prayer and Care For Prayer Chain requests please phone Jan Watts (360410) or Janet Whitehead (377837). To let us know of someone who is ill phone Chris Hartley (378324) or Richard Southam (865627).
Small Groups. Home groups, and Tuesday Evening Worship, are places where we encourage each other in developing the life of Jesus in ourselves and in our church. We can explore how the Bible applies in our daily lives and ask questions in a way that isn’t possible within a Sunday service, as well as developing quality relationships with each other. It is really valuable for every church member to belong to such a group. If you would like to know more please call the church office (500541). Read more.
